Birthday weekend

Last weekend, we celebrated my birthday.  Birthdays tend to get less exciting as you get older, but they are definitely more fun with kids around.  Kensley is getting more into birthday celebrations and loves to have parties and especially cake.  We had a good time celebrating with family over the course of several days and also having a celebration of our own.  Here are a few pics from the weekend.

So excited about the birthday cake!  She even told me that day that she needed to go with daddy to pick up the cake for me at the store.  We're already learning she can't be trusted with secrets!

We had just come from dinner with my parents where Avery kept laying on the restaurant floor, practically begging to go to bed.  Sweet girl.

Thanks friends and family for all the phone calls, cards, texts and messages.  It made for a special birthday!

Avery: 15 Month Stats...

We went to the doctor yesterday for Avery's 15 month well check.  As usual it was eventful taking both girls by myself...trying to keep them entertained and tear-free.

 

Avery got a great report from the doctor and overall did really well...with the exception of a few tears during her three shots.  She even went over and gave the doctor a big hug when she walked in the room.  It was so sweet.  The doctor didn't seem real concerned about Avery not drinking milk.  She told us to continue to try every so often and also give her other forms of dairy (cheese, yogurt, cottage cheese, etc.) and we can even try orange juice with calcium to help supplement. 

 

Both girls got the flu shot...well Kens actually got the flu-mist which seemed to be just as traumatic for her as a shot would have been.  I had to hold her on my lap and use my arms and legs to pin her down and hold her head still.  It was a little ridiculous, but at least it's over.

 

Aves is still a little peanut and the doc said she is doing fine and growing on her own scale.  Here are her stats:

 

Weight: 19 lbs 8 oz (4th percentile)

Height: 29.5 inches (17th percentile)

Head: 18 inches (41st percentile)

 

 



A few funny things...

Because this is my "scrapbook" and I want to remember things that Kensley and Avery are  saying and doing these days, I thought I'd do a quick post including some funny and random things.

Kensley has coined the word "last-mornin"...as in things happening 2 hours ago, yesterday or 2 months ago.  She still has a hard time grasping "time" and this "word" tends to apply to anything in the past.  It's so funny to hear her use it.  She also sometimes uses "to-mornin" as well for anything in the future.

Kens is still working on counting and tends to get a little mixed up in the teens.  She does great until about thirteen or fourteen and then throws in an "eleventeen" into the mix...twelve, thirteen, fourteen, eleventeen, eighteen....ha!

Kensley has taken to "mothering" Avery (poor girl always gets told what to do).  It's funny to hear everything she says to Avery, it's like a parrot repeating back everything we tell her to do.  "Avery, you have two options.  Here are your options..."

Kens also still frequently calls Avery "sweetie".  It's so cute to hear her say it.  "Here you go, thweetie..."

While cleaning the bathrooms last week, Kensley asks "Why are you cleaning the toilet, Mom?  Is someone coming over tomorrow?"  Uh oh...busted!  I quickly reassured her that no, no one was coming over and I do clean more than just when we are having guests.  I can already imagine the things she'll one day tell her Kindergarten teacher.

Whenever we say, "Who wants to eat dinner/have a snack/go outside...etc."  Kensley always says "Meeeee!" with her hands in the air.  Avery has started doing this now as well and it's so cute.  She puts her hands up and says "eeeeeeeeee".

Kens was in a whiny mood the other night and we asked her if she wanted to go to timeout.  The next thing we know, we hear Avery say "eeeeeeee" as she throws her arms in the air and heads over to the designated timeout spot.  She just sat down with her back against the door and had a proud look and little smirk on her face.  It was so funny!  I have a feeling timeout may never be a punishment for Avery if she continues to think it's fun.

We said goodbye to the Altima this summer and got a new Odyssey.  We love it!

So I finally cleaned off the pictures from my phone.  I've posted a few pictures in blog posts (as sometimes my phone doubles as my camera for the day), but I haven't done a big picture dump in a while.
