The Roberts Family: 11 weeks old!

11 weeks old…wow, doesn’t seem possible! Kensley is still growing like a weed…no official stats, but it still feels like she changes daily. She’s quickly growing out of clothes and Jeremy and I both feel like her face is changing as well. It’s sad to think that our tiny little baby isn’t so little anymore!

Well as the weeks have gone by, Jeremy and I are quickly learning Kensley’s likes and dislikes. I haven’t posted them before so I thought I’d devote this post to Kensley’s favorite and least favorite things (in no particular order).

Kensley likes:

Her pacifier…especially when she’s sleepy or wants something to suck on. She often fusses at night/during naps when she wakes up and discovers that it’s no longer in her mouth.
Her floor gym…she loves to lie on the ground and hit the hanging animals and listen to the jungle music. She loves to “talk” to them to.
Mornings! Kensley is so happy when she first wakes up in the morning. She’s been waking up around 6:45 a.m. to eat and after a full tummy usually has at least an hour and a half of happy time (before her morning nap).
Her bumbo seat…she specifically likes to sit in her bumbo seat on the kitchen counter so she can see mommy make dinner/work in the kitchen. As with most things…she gets bored after 20 – 30 minutes so it’s definitely not a long term solution for something to keep her busy.
To eat! She’s still a healthy eater and eats rather regularly (with the exception of the nighttime hours). We have learned to stay ahead of her hunger though as she tends to get really upset when it takes us too long to warm her bottle, change her to get her fed or for Mommy to get ready.
To be held. No explanation here.
Bath time with daddy…Kensley seems to enjoy her baths (as long as we keep them short and the water is fairly warm). She especially loves to have her hair washed.

To be talked to! Kensley has a little sound that she makes when we talk to her (hard to describe, but it is kind of a throaty sound) and she thinks it’s hilarious. She often makes this sound throughout the day and breaks out into a huge smile after she does it….she thinks she’s pretty funny (she gets that from her dad). If we make the noise first, she’ll either smile really big or make the sound back to us. It provides hours of entertainment throughout the day!
Sitting up…whether it’s sitting on our laps or sitting (propped up of course) on the couch, she loves to sit up and look around. She hates to miss out on the action!
Watch TV…we tell ourselves that she just likes the lights and change in colors, but we’re fearful that she takes after mom and dad’s love for watching TV and movies.

Kensley dislikes:

Being in her carseat…when she is awake, she doesn’t like to be sitting in her carseat. We only really have a few minutes of silence in the car if she’s awake, because she quickly tells us that she wants out. We aren’t sure if it’s because she doesn’t like to be confined or if it’s because she can’t see anybody facing backwards.
The time right after her bath…specifically when she is cold and getting lotion rubbed on her.
Going to sleep/being tired. Kensley is doing MUCH better at going to sleep at night and also for naps during the day. She rarely fusses when being put to sleep, but she still fights sleep by lifting her head and trying to keep her eyes open.
Being interrupted when eating. Of course this is attributed to her LOVE for eating…when taking a bottle and we pull it away to try to slow her down/burp her…she often whines until she gets it back. We think it’s hilarious and I hate to admit that we sometimes do it just to hear the whine…is it terrible if we do?
The dark! So funny, but already Kensley HATES the dark. When walking into a dark room, her eyes instantly get huge as she tries to take in all that could be around her. Ever since Kensley has been sleeping in her crib in her room (at 7 weeks), we’ve kept the hall light on as sort of a nightlight for her. The hall light has been something that Jeremy and I have had to adjust to (among other things) as it provides a lot of light into our room. So the other night we tried to shut it off (keep in mind Kensley had been asleep in bed for 2.5 hours and we’ve since put a nightlight into her room). No more than 10 seconds after shutting off the hall light (and I am not kidding about that) Kensley immediately starts to whine loudly. We of course ran to turn it back on for fear of waking her up, but we laughed for quite a while.

We’re hoping to add another thing to the “loves” list before too long. We’ve been working on reading books. She likes to look at the pictures, but her attention span isn’t too long. We’re hoping that she takes an interest in books at some point in time…after all her mom loves to read!

As you can tell, Kensley continues to provide us much joy and entertainment. She has been a great baby and we are so thankful for all that she has brought to our lives. Kensley’s latest milestone is that she has slept through the night the past 3 nights in a row. She’s gone to bed around 8:00 p.m. and has not woken up to eat until 6:45 a.m. She’s been taking about a 2.5 hour nap in the morning and also in the afternoon. We are thankful that she is a great sleeper!

We are still anxiously awaiting Baby Lindvall. Ashley is due on Friday, January 29. She received the report from the doc on Monday that baby girl Lindvall would for sure be here next week…either naturally or by scheduled induction. Hopefully by our next post, we’ll have some exciting news to share!
