10 Year Anniversary Trip: Maui (Part 1)

In June, Jeremy and I were able to get away for an extended vacation to celebrate our 10 year wedding anniversary.  We had been planning and saving to go to Maui for many years and we're so glad we were finally able to go!  Jeremy put lots and lots of time into planning and researching this trip.

We flew out of Indy at 8 am on Thursday, June 9th.  Scott was kind enough to drive us to the airport bright and early!  We flew through San Francisco and had a brief layover and then landed in Maui around 1 pm (which was 7 pm Indiana time).  We rented a jeep for the week and then headed to our condo at the Whaler on Kaanapali Beach.  After checking in, unpacking and checking out the local area we headed for an early dinner nearby our condo and made it to bed just after the sunset at 7:30 pm.  We were so exhausted from the long day of travel.

We had the entire back row of our plane to stretch out

Friday morning we got up super early around 3 am to head up to the top of Haleakala to see the sunrise.  We were at about 10,000 feet and it was freezing up there...like 40 degrees!  It took us about an hour and a half to drive from our condo up to the top of the volcano.  It was a pretty cool experience to see the sunrise above the clouds.

We spent the rest of Friday napping by the pool, lunch on the beach at Hula Grill and headed into Old Lahaina for dinner, sunset and shopping.

Lunch at Hula Grill
Delicious lunch...pulled pork on a purple bun!
Dinner at Old Lahaina Fish Company...great location, but not the best food.
Sunset in Old Lahaina
Checking out the oldest banyan tree in downtown Lahaina
Saturday morning we woke early again (which was the theme for the week...out of bed by 6 am) and spent the day at several of the local beaches not far from our condo.  We visited Kapalua Bay, Honalua Bay and Napili Bay (my favorite).  We hit up happy hour for dinner at the Seahouse on Napili Bay.  It was delicious and one of my favorite meals and views of the week.
